    Understanding What E-Commerce is?

The first thing you need to understand is how e-commerce works. E-commerce is short for electronic commerce, and it revolves around the idea of trading goods and services on the Internet. Imagine running a store, but instead of the store being physically present somewhere, you use the Internet to run your store.

E-commerce is a great way for people to buy and sell things in retail. Some companies rely entirely on e-commerce to sell their goods, and surprisingly enough, they perform really well, too! E-commerce is a great way for small businesses to ensure more customer footfall and for larger companies to reach larger audiences to make more sales.

What is the Basic Process of an E-commerce Store?

There are three simple steps to follow while running an e-commerce store. The first thing that you need to do is accept an order. A customer will land at your store, and once they decide on what they want to get, they will place an order. Then, your role starts: you have to accept the order.

After that, you must process your order by beginning the processing step. You will have to process the customer’s payment just like you would in a cash register, and then you have to sync the data with the required fulfillment software for retailers

Once the processing is done, you must ship the order to your customer’s chosen location. This is the last step, and you should aim for a maximum of 2 days for delivery since your customer will be waiting in anticipation as well. This also increases the credibility of your online store.

What are the Most Common E-Commerce Business Models?

The thing about e-commerce is that it is not limited to just one business model. You get a couple of business models that you can choose between. This liberates you as per your own business ideas. There are four main business models that you should know about, and we will tell you all that you need to know about them. Keep reading ahead!

    B2B (Business to Business)

This is the relatively common version of e-commerce, and many companies tend to practice it. B2B commerce is the exchange of goods or services between two businesses. Consumers aren’t directly involved in this business model. The price of the products is usually higher than what a retailer would usually sell to a customer. A prime example of B2B commerce is Alibaba.

    B2C (Business to Consumer)

This business model is more straightforward than the rest. B2C typically involves businesses selling goods or services directly to consumers. For instance, if you decide to open your own online store, you will sell to customers directly instead of selling them to other businesses. Again, some great examples of B2C commerce are Walmart, Amazon, and Apple, which are mainstream companies you would see spread out throughout the United States.

    C2c (Consumer to Consumer)

This is also a pretty straightforward business model. In this model, consumers sell goods and services to other consumers. For instance, imagine getting a smartphone and selling it to another person without using it. You may also sell the product, even if you use it yourself, at a reduced price.

These transactions typically occur in online marketplaces such as Swappa, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and Craigslist. One difference is that the people who sell these products are not businessmen or businesswomen, yet this is a “business” model.

    C2B (Consumer to Business)

This one is a little out of the ordinary. In a C2B business model, a consumer sells a good or service to a business. However, as alarming as this may sound, you would see this all around you. It includes photographers selling their photography skills to businesses, videography services, and even writing services if you are a content writer.

    Ending Note

Running a business online is one of the best decisions you can make. You don’t have to pay for a warehouse or a physical store; all you need is a reliable internet service and some really good marketing skills, and you’re good to go! Give all of these business models a good look, and maybe just start an online business of your own, too!
